CineMAH Features International Award Winning Film

Santa Cruz, California -- The Museum of Art & History (MAH), in partnership with the Santa Cruz Film Festival (SCFF), presents the second installment of MAH's after-hours programming, CineMAH, a film event for the entire family. CineMAH is held the first Thursday of the month and offers yet another perspective on current exhibitions at MAH. The event includes extended gallery viewing hours. The films featured on March 3, 2005, are Solo un Cargador (Porter) by Peruvian filmmaker Juan Alejandro Ramirez and Sacred Game by Thor Anderson. Both films compliment MAH's current exhibition Ancient Artists: Pre-Columbian Art from the Mississippi Museum of Art on view through March 13, 2005.

Solo un Cargador (Porter) is a heartbreakingly beautiful meditation about the life, hopes and dreams of a fictional Peruvian porter named Chuqui Orozco. Porter is the recipient of several international film awards and recently screened at The Sundance Film Festival 2005. This short film is a series of visually stunning scenes primarily taken from the streets of Cuzco and the footpaths through the Andes Mountains to Macchu Picchu. Sacred Game is a feature documentary set in the Chiapas region of Mexico documenting Mayan locals who retain much of their ancient ancestral rites and rituals. Filmmaker and SFSU professor Thor Anderson will be on hand to introduce his film and the Q + A that will follow the screenings.
